Turkey to hold elections in less than 24 hours

According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA), Turkey is holding a snap election in less than 24 hours as hundreds of reporters and observers have arrived in the country to monitor the poll on Sunday.

More than 600 journalists from 34 countries will cover the event, Turkish government says. more than 56 million voters have registered to vote in the election with more than one million Turkish citizens from outside the country.

In April 2018 Turkey decided to hold an early presidential and parliamentary election on June 24 while it was scheduled for November 2019.

President Erdogan had said the country needs an urgent switch to the new system in order to make decisions and take concert steps regarding the future of the country.

6 candidates are running for the presidency and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who is one of the candidates says the election will pave the way for many positive changes in the country.

The new president of Turkey will serve under the presidential system for the first time as Turkey voted to eliminate the post of prime minister during a referendum in 2017.
