Russia’s military bases in Syria came under drone strikes

According to Mikrofon news agency (MHA), Russian Defense Ministry confirms the country’s military bases in Syria came under drone strikes but says the attacks have been defused by the Russian forces.

A statement released by the Russian Defense Ministry says the drones were intercepted and defused by the air defense systems and didn’t cause any causalities or damages. The statement says 13 drone were involved in the attack targeting Tartus and Hamimim military bases in west of Syria on January 6.

Russian Defense Ministry says the drones were carrying advanced explosive devices which was made outside of Syria. The statement released by the Russian Defense Ministry pointed out that advanced systems used in the attacks show that the systems could be given to the terrorists by a country who has access to the very advanced technology, without naming any specific country.

Russia had also said on January 1, that two Russian troops were killed after the air base of Hamimim in Syria was targeted by the armed opposition groups in the country. 7 aircrafts belongs to Russia were also destroyed in the attack.
