According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA), Iran’s former president Muhamad Khatami has said the main reason behind the recent political unrest in Iran was dissatisfaction of the people and lack of trust on the leaders of Iran.
“Continuation of dissatisfaction maybe very dangerous and the recent developments showed clearly that people have some demands that have not been fulfilled by the government”, said Khatami speaking with the members of the Association of University Teachers.
People who were chanting against government did not seek to overthrow the government, they only were protesting, said Khatami. He also criticized Iran’s state run television for spreading hate among the people.
Iran’s former president also urged Iran’s judiciary to try to defend people’s rights instead of being involved in politics. Thousands of Iranians staged anti-government demonstrations in Iran, protesting rising prices and corruption in the government.
The demonstrations which lasted for nearly two weeks, were cracked down by the security forces. More than 20 people were killed during the demonstrations and nearly 4 thousands were detained.
