One civilian killed, 46 wounded in terrorist attacks on Turkey’s Hatay

According to Mikrofonnews agency (MHA), Syrian asylum seeker has been killed and 46 others, 16 of them Syrians, wounded after PYD/PKK fired rockets from Afrin to border areas of Turkey, Ardal Ata, local governor of Hatay says.

“At least 11 explosions occurred in five different areas of the city that we believe cause of the explosions were rockets fired by terrorists”, said Ata. Rockets hit Reyhanli district on Sunday after Turkish army launched a major military operation in Afrin, north-west of Syria on Saturday.

Turkey says the operation will target positions of Islamic State’s terrorists and PYD/PKK in border areas between Syria and Turkey.

The operation was being carried out under the framework of Turkey’s rights based on international law, UN Security Council’s decisions and self-defense rights under the UN charter, the military officials say. Afrin has been a major hideout for the PYD/PKK since July 2012 when the Assad regime in Syria left the city to the terror group without putting up a fight.
