Motivation behind attack on civilians in Toronto remains unknown

According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA), Canadian police say investigations are underway but the motivation behind a deadly attack on civilians in Toronto has remained unclear so far.

At least 10 people were killed another 15 wounded after a rented van hit crowd of pedestrians in Toronto on Monday. Officials say the condition of five wounded people is critical. The driver of the van managed to escape but he was arrested during a confrontation with police a little far from the incident site.

He has been identified as Alek Minassian, 25, from Armenia who was not previously known to authorities. According to several eyewitnesses, driver of the van has hit a crowd of people on the sidewalk, went back to the main road and hit the crowd again on the sidewalk.

Police says investigations are underway, adding that the incident seemed to be a deliberate attack on civilians.

Justin Trudeau said the “tragic and senseless attack” had brought him “great sadness”. Meanwhile, an officer has been praised for not opening fire during a tense standoff with the suspect, who claimed to be armed.
