According to Mikrofon news agency (MHA), a visit by French Foreign Minister Jean Yves Le Drian to Iran that was organized for the coming days has been postponed amid the widespread demonstrations in the country, French officials said on Wednesday.
He was expected to pay a visit to the country ahead of an official trip by President Macron to Iran. Hours before the news announced by the French officials, Hassan Rohani, Iran’s President had a telephone conversation with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, BBC reports.
Speaking about the victims of the recent protests in Iran, Macron has asked for restraint of Iranian authorities.
At least 23 people have been killed and more than 1000 reportedly detained since the demonstrations began.
