EU invites Iran’s FM to travel to Europe over recent protests in Iran

According to Mikrofon news agency (MHA), German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel, says European Union has invited Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif to travel to Europe to discuss over recent anti-government demonstrations in Iran.

“We have spoken with the Head of EU Foreign Policy and have agreed to invite Iran’s Foreign Minister to here, if it’s possible we will be happy to meet him next week”, says Gabriel.

Thousands of Iranians staged demonstrations in Iran with fiery slogans against the Iran’s President and Supreme leader or the country. More than 20 people were killed during the protests and more than 2 thousand were detained.

The demonstrations which was started on December 28, spread rapidly to the other parts the country.

“We have supported peaceful demonstrations in Iran and Iran’s government must listen to the people concerns”, said Gabriel.

There is no immediate reaction from the foreign ministry of Iran over the invitation by the EU.
