Death toll from Fuego volcanic eruption reaches 109

According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA), the death toll from Fuego volcanic eruption has climbed up to 109 while 200 others are missing, most of them believed dead, Guatemalan officials said on Thursday.

Fuego volcano erupted on Sunday some 40 km in the southwest of Guatemala city destroying money homes and villages. A river of lava killed money villagers and forced more than 3 thousand people to evacuate immediately.

The rescue operation is hampered by frequent explosions at the volcanic site, officials said on Thursday. Many victims are believed to have burned to death or suffocated from the poisonous gases released in the eruption on Sunday. An estimated 1.7 million people had been affected by the eruption.
