China to construct a military base in Afghanistan

According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA), Chinese military officials say construction of a military base in the mountainous areas of Wakhan in the northeast of Afghanistan has been started.

The area is located in Badakhshan province and has a border with the Uighur Autonomous Region in the west of China.

A report by the “South China Morning Post” says the military base is being constructed in the bordering areas between Afghanistan and China in the framework of anti-terrorism operation and for monitoring the joint borders between two countries.

It has been said that besides the conducting of military operations, China will take part in the training of the Afghan military forces. China is planning to deploy a military unit with advanced military equipment to the base.
