Armed conflicts intensified in Hodeidah city of Yemen

According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA), armed clashes have intensified between Yemen forces backed by the Saudi-led military coalition and rebels of Houthis in Hodeidah city on Thursday.

Hodeida’s port is the main entrance for humanitarian aids send by the international community to the war-torn country.

the United Arab Emirates which is a member of the military coalition has confirmed the death of four Yemeni soldiers during the clashes and some reports say at least 22 Houthi rebels are also killed in Hadida city.

The clashes have erupted around the Hodeidah airport and southern parts of the city according to the reports. Meanwhile, the UN Security Council is expected to hold an emergency meeting on Yemen on Thursday.

The meeting is held at the request of Britain who has expressed concern over a possible intensifying of the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Saudi-led military coalition says it has carried out 18 airstrikes on Iran-backed Houthi militants in areas close to Hodeidah city on Wednesday and the militants say they have hit a ship belongs to the coalition by a missile on the same day.

Hodeidah has a population of 400 thousand people and it is feared that armed conflicts inside the city harm many civilians.
