Afghan President announces unilateral ceasefire with Taliban

According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA) Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has announced a temporary ceasefire with Taliban following a Fatwa by Afghan clerics who had encouraged both sides for an immediate ceasefire.

In a speech broadcast on national radio on Thursday Ashraf Ghani ordered military forces to stop all military operations against Taliban from 27th of Ramadan until 5th of ‘Eid, a religious Islamic festival at the end of Ramadan. Afghan President has emphasized that during this time military operation against Islamic States terrorists, AL-Qaeda and other terrorist groups will continue.

He said details of the ceasefire will be announced soon. Taliban who are carrying out deadly attacks against military forces and civilians including women and children have said they will comment on Ashraf Ghani’s speech later

. Three days ago Taliban carried out a suicide attack in Kabul targeting a large gathering of Afghan clerics who condemned ongoing war and suicide attacks in the country. At least 7 people were killed and 9 others wounded in the suicide bombing.
