300 cities in Iran face shortage of water : officials

According to Mikrofonnews Agency (MHA), at least 300 cities in Iran with a population of 17 million people are facing shortages of water, Iran Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian says.

He has expressed concern that in some parts of the country like Sistan and Baluchistan rainfall has dropped up to 70% compared with the last year.

“We are facing a change of climate as caused by the global warming. Increasing the population, consuming too much water are the main factors of a shortage of water in the country”, said Ardakanian. He warns that Iran may face a power rationing in the summer if the situation goes the same.
